Isabel Cauas

Isabel Cauas (1966) is a Chilean artist and the President of Corporación Cultural Taller 99, Chile’s longest-running print workshop, where she has taught lithography since 1988. Her artwork explores imaginary “micro worlds” that incorporate elements such as trees and cliffs, often presented through windows that invite viewer engagement. In her piece Across, she utilises intaglio techniques—dry point, aquatint, and etching—to frame distant landscapes, encouraging personal interpretation through minimalistic lines and negative space. Cauas has exhibited her prints extensively across Chile, the United States, Europe, and beyond. Her work reflects a deep connection to landscape, with trees as central figures, revealing a dialogue between abstraction and figuration. Through a monochrome palette and fragmented imagery, she creates desolate yet evocative scenes that invite viewers to complete the narrative.
