Satyaki Ghosh is a photographer with a deep connection to the world of cinema and black-and-white photography, influenced by his legendary father, Nemai Ghosh. While at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, he was mentored by Jyotish Chakraborty and began his career on the sets of Satyajit Ray's Ghare Bhaire. Passionate about photographing people, specifically, Satyaki captures the human condition with an abstract focus that invites investigation. His work - which covers everything from the sensual to the rustic, blending raw emotion and artistry to communicate compelling, human stories - has appeared in international magazines and received acclaim from icons like Henri Cartier-Bresson. Ghosh has been awarded many prestigious honours, such as PX3 and Spiders. Whether short-term assignments or large-scale projects, Satyaki prioritises the cultural contexts that nurture his craft.
In this exhibition, the viewer is invited into an intimate narrative, captured through the lenses of two generations—photographers Nemai Ghosh and Satyaki Ghosh. Here, the lives of legendary filmmakers are revealed across decades, both in moments of solitary reflection and within the creative pulse of Kolkata, a city that stands as a silent witness to their cinematic journeys.(..)
