Louiz Banks

Louiz Banks is celebrated as the ‘Godfather of Indian Jazz’. With such a legacy as six generations of musicians in the family, Banks’ passion for the craft sparked early. For over five decades, he has contributed not only to India’s jazz scene, but also to Indian music at large, across genres. A masterful pianist and composer, he leads various jazz and fusion bands, including SILK and DIYA, and has collaborated with luminaries like Dizzy Gillespie and Zakir Hussain. Banks has also been a prolific composer of advertisement jingles, stage musicals, and film scores, earning a Grammy nomination for the album Miles from India in 2008. His participation in the Montreal Jazz Festival in 2010 further cemented his global reputation and impact. His latest work includes the 2019 release Praana, showcasing his continuous evolution as a tastemaker and artist.
